Our story begins some one hundred and twenty years ago. Angela and Francis Ricciardone left Sassano Italy, a small hilly town in the Campagna region of Italy and landed on Ellis Island with a dream of opening a restaurant in America. They were not new to the business. They already owned a successful restaurant in their home town. Their dream was fulfilled when “Richies”, a small tavern in the borough of Brooklyn N.Y. opened, serving Italian-American fare.
After thirty-eight years in the business, with the help of friends and family, my dream came true when Pizzeria Sassano was born. Named after that little village in the hills of southwestern Italy, Pizzeria Sassano is an homage to my great grandparents, the DiBellas and Ricciardones.
